How many questions is the NCLEX-RN in 2026?
The Next Gen NCLEX-RN gives every candidate between 85 and 150 questions, with a maximum testing time of 5 hours. The computer stops as soon as it can determine your ability with 95% confidence, so a short exam is not a sign of failing.
What are NCLEX case studies?
Each candidate receives three unfolding case studies of six questions each. You review an evolving client chart and answer questions built on the NCSBN Clinical Judgment Measurement Model: recognize cues, analyze cues, prioritize hypotheses, generate solutions, take action, and evaluate outcomes. Most items award partial credit.
How long should I study for the NCLEX?
Most first-time test takers who pass study 4–8 weeks, doing 75–100 practice questions per day with full rationale review, plus timed 150-question simulations in the final two weeks.
What should a new RN student expect in clinicals?
Expect pre-shift client research, a strict focus on safety (hand hygiene, the 5 rights, sterile technique), supervised skills, and post-conference care plans. Instructors evaluate preparation, safety, and communication far more than speed.
