Fundamentals looks like hand-washing and bed baths until the exam asks you to prioritize four patients who are all 'stable.' Not memorization. Pattern recognition with a body count.

Pharm breaks people because they try to memorize 400 drugs. You don't. You memorize about 20 suffixes, a handful of antidotes, and the labs that make you hold a dose. Everything else is a variation on a theme you already know.

Cardiac, respiratory, endocrine — where the exam gets mean.

Med-Surg I is the semester where 'study harder' stops working and 'study differently' starts. The content is systems-based, but the exams are complication-based: they hand you a set of vitals and labs and ask what's going wrong before anyone charts it.

Neuro, renal, GI, and critical care — the semester that humbles.

Med-Surg II stacks the systems on top of each other and asks you to manage a whole patient. Expect multi-system stems: a septic renal patient with a neuro change and a potassium of 6.2. This is the semester that turns students into nurses.

Peds is not 'small adult med-surg.' Kids compensate beautifully and then crash without warning. This semester is about developmental milestones, weight-based everything, and recognizing the quiet kid who is actually in trouble.

OB / Labor & Delivery

Two patients, one bed, no time to hesitate.

OB moves faster than any other clinical rotation, and it's the one where the 'stable' patient becomes an emergency in ninety seconds. Fetal strips, postpartum hemorrhage, and preeclampsia are the three things that will show up on your exam, your clinical, and your worst shift.
